In April 2007, the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) replaced EcoHomes as the assessment method for new housing in England. The original EcoHomes scheme still applies in Scotland.
Both schemes are voluntary, allowing developers to demonstrate the sustainability of their new homes, and enabling purchasers to make informed decisions when investing in such property.
The code has a rating scale of one to six stars. The intention is that homes awarded six stars will be carbon neutral. Rainwater and greywater recycling are required features of all homes awarded four, five or six stars.
Greyflow environmental systems are the most sustainable grey water systems to consider in house designs. They automatically incorporate fire suppression, a key safety feature which protects life, property and the environment.
